Shenzhen surprised me. I came with zero expectations and ended up loving the mix of futuristic architecture and laid-back coastal walks. The staff at my hostel in Nanshan were incredibly warm and gave me a handwritten list of hidden food stalls. Tried the best stinky tofu of my life near Dongmen—messy, loud, and absolutely unforgettable. Five stars for the energy alone.
Honestly, I didn't get the hype. Shenzhen is just another concrete jungle with malls everywhere. Tried to find a local market with character, but most felt too sanitized and touristy. The seafood I had in Shekou was decent but way pricier than I expected. Maybe I missed the right spots, but the whole vibe felt a bit soulless to me. Won't rush back.
I walked along Shenzhen Bay Park at sunset—breathtaking views of the mangroves and the bridge to Hong Kong. The city feels incredibly green and well-planned. However, I visited the window of the world theme park and it was a letdown—crowded, run-down, and not worth the entrance fee. Would skip that and spend more time in nature.
Came here for work and stayed a few extra days. Shenzhen is great for digital nomads—fast Wi-Fi everywhere and tons of co-working spaces. But honestly, the food options around Huaqiangbei were underwhelming; most places were overpriced for what you get. The metro is clean and efficient though. Worth a visit, but manage expectations on dining.
Visited Shenzhen for a weekend getaway and was blown away by the modern skyline. The air in the OCT Loft area felt fresh despite being in a big city—loved the street art and cozy cafes. The only downside was the subway signage being a bit confusing, but locals were super helpful. Definitely coming back!
Great value for money! Shenzhen Bay Park is free and stunning, especially at golden hour. Lots of cheap and tasty street food, and budget hotels are decent. The bus system is cheap but a bit confusing. Overall a very wallet-friendly destination with plenty to see.
