Must-Try Food
Hongcun's signature dish is stinky mandarin fish (臭鳜鱼). Don't let the name scare you—it's fermented, not rotten. I always take my groups to De Yue Lou (得月楼) near the east gate. They have an English menu. Also try maodoufu (毛豆腐), a hairy tofu that's fried crispy. It's weird but delicious.
It wasn't a bad tour, but I expected more of the 'secrets' from the title.
