Chimelong Ocean Kingdom

I wanted to love this place, but a few things let it down. We arrived right at opening and the entry line was fine, but by 11am it was packed—thousands of school groups everywhere. The walk-through dolphin pool was nice, but two of the smaller exhibits, the sea turtle zone and the touch pool, were closed for maintenance without any discount or warning. The food court was chaos, and we paid about £12 each for limp fried rice. Shows felt rushed, and the park's lighting in some indoor areas makes all photos look harsh. Not awful, but for the ticket price I'd expect better control of crowds and clear opening notices.

Great day out overall, and the parade at night was unexpectedly spectacular—floats, dancers, lights, the works. The aquarium itself is magnificent, especially the whale sharks. Why not five? Because the lion dance show we waited twenty minutes for got canceled without any announcement, and the park maps are a bit confusing when you're trying to find the bird island. Also, some walkways have zero shade. Still, we managed to see everything by early afternoon. A solid four stars, but not a perfect day.
