Honestly a bit disappointed. The photos online are heavily edited – the water wasn't that vibrant turquoise, more of a muddy green when I went. The main trail was closed for maintenance without any notice on the website, so we had to settle for a short overlook loop. It's still a nice natural area, but for the long drive and entrance fee, I expected more. Maybe it's better in the rainy season?
We pulled in with our camper van and were pleasantly surprised to find a small designated parking area for RVs near the visitor center. The ranger was super helpful in pointing out a loop trail that's stroller-friendly, so our toddler could enjoy the views too. The canyon is massive – you really feel tiny. Only downside: the café at the entrance had limited options and was overpriced. But the views more than make up for it.
I visited in late autumn and the colors were stunning – golden leaves against the red rock cliffs. A local guide told me about a hidden waterfall about 2 km down a side trail, and it was the highlight of my trip. The main paths are well maintained, but some of the unmarked trails are a bit sketchy. Felt safe overall, just wish there were more restrooms along the way. Highly recommended for photographers!
Beautiful scenery overall, but the main observation deck was way too crowded when we got there around noon. The parking situation is a mess – no clear signs, and we ended up parking way down the road. The canyon itself is impressive if you can find a quiet spot, but the lack of basic facilities (trash bins, benches) took away from the experience. Worth a visit, but go early and prepare for chaos.
Absolutely breathtaking! The sheer scale of the canyon walls is hard to put into words. We hiked the eastern rim trail at sunrise and watched the fog slowly lift over the river far below. The silence except for birds and the distant water was magical. One of the most awe-inspiring natural wonders I've ever visited. Bring good walking shoes and plenty of water – you’ll want to explore every viewpoint.
