A decent urban escape but not exceptional. The park is spacious and well-connected by metro, which is a plus. However, the playground equipment is outdated and my nephew got bored quickly. The artificial beach area was closed for maintenance — a letdown. Still, the walking trails are nice and I appreciated the shaded paths on a hot day. Ok for a casual stroll.

This park surprised me in the best way! The lotus pond in summer is a hidden gem — so peaceful, with dragonflies and frogs. I spent two hours just sitting by the water sketching. There's also a lovely bamboo grove and a little bridge that feels like stepping into a painting. Perfect for solo travelers or couples. Highly recommend bringing a picnic blanket and a book.

Honestly a bit disappointed. The park has potential but many areas feel neglected — trash bins overflowing, some flower beds dried out, and the rental bikes were rusty. We came for a relaxing afternoon but the constant drone of nearby traffic ruined the vibe. Not worth the long drive from downtown. Maybe better in peak season, but I wouldn't rush back.

Good park overall but gets way too crowded on weekends. The main paths were packed and it was hard to find a quiet spot. The grounds are well-maintained and the landscaping is beautiful, but the food stalls are overpriced and mediocre. Entry fee is reasonable. If you can go on a weekday, it's a solid 4-star experience.

Absolutely loved Gucun Park! We went on a sunny Saturday in early April and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom — absolutely breathtaking. The park is huge with plenty of open lawns for picnics, and the lake adds a serene touch. Kids had a blast at the small amusement area. Clean restrooms and plenty of benches. Will definitely come back every spring!

Gucun Park Travel FAQ

Which restaurant near Gucun Park is best for a family with young kids?
For families, Jiaxiang Farmhouse Restaurant is a great choice. The atmosphere is casual and noisy enough that kids won't be a problem. The dishes are homestyle and generally not too spicy. They often have high chairs. The braised pork and steamed egg are usually kid-pleasers. For something even faster and simpler, Laoshengchang is also very family-friendly with its quick service and familiar dumpling options.
What's the one local dish I shouldn't miss near Gucun Park?
If you only try one thing, make it authentic Shanghainese Soup Dumplings (Xiaolongbao) at a place like Laoshengchang. The ones you get in this local context are different from the touristy versions downtown. The skin is delicate, the broth inside is piping hot and savory, and the pork filling is perfectly seasoned. It's a quintessential Shanghai experience. Pair it with a side of ginger strips in vinegar.
