Green Lake Park

Honestly, I don't get the hype. Drove 30 minutes to check it out and found the place overcrowded on a Tuesday afternoon. People blasting music from their speakers, trash overflowing near the grills, and the water had a weird greenish tint with a faint smell. The walking trail is fine but nothing special — you can find dozens of similar lakes anywhere. Paid $5 for parking which felt like a rip-off given the condition. Won't be back.

Nice park for a quick walk or jog. Entry is free and parking is ample on weekdays. The lake looks decent, though you can see some algae near the edges. Restrooms were clean but the water fountain on the east side was broken. Trails are well-marked and there's a decent snack kiosk that doesn't overcharge. Would be 5 stars if they fixed the small maintenance issues and added more benches.

Came right before golden hour and it was pure magic. The reflection of the sky on the still water is unreal — got some of my best Instagram shots here. Quiet, peaceful, couple of ducks swimming by. There's a small wooden dock that's perfect for sitting and watching the sun dip behind the hills. No loud music, no crowds at that time. Perfect escape after a busy work week.

Brought my two kids (3 and 6) on Saturday afternoon. Huge hit! The playground is modern with soft rubber ground, and the splash pad was running perfectly. We rented a pedal boat for half an hour — felt a bit pricey ($15) but the kids were thrilled. Clean bathrooms available near the main pavilion. Pack a picnic, you won't need anything else. Definitely coming back next month.

Absolutely love coming here for my morning runs. The paved loop around the lake is exactly 2.3 miles and it's mostly shaded by huge oak trees. The water is crystal clear today, saw a blue heron stalking fish near the reeds. Bike path is well-maintained too. Only wish there were more water fountains along the way, but that's a minor thing. Easily my favorite spot in town.

Some noisy construction near the south entrance, but it didn’t ruin the magic. Will be back every season!

If you’re a runner or cyclist, you’ll love this park. The paved path around the lake is smooth and marked with distance signs every quarter mile. I did three laps last Saturday and it was pure bliss—shade from big trees, lots of friendly joggers, and the lake views keep you motivated. Also saw a guy playing guitar under a willow tree. Seriously, this park is a gem. Free admission and plenty of benches for resting. 10/10.

There's a lovely little bridge near the southwest corner where you can watch the sunset over the lake – absolutely breathtaking. Even the vendors selling fried tofu add to the charm rather than detract from it (the tofu is delicious, by the way). This park is pure soul medicine. 5 stars without hesitation.

The way the local culture blends with nature is incredible – you have old men playing Chinese chess under the pagodas, kids feeding the fish, and couples rowing colorful paddle boats on the lake. Everything feels so alive. I walked around the entire perimeter and discovered hidden garden corners with sculptures and flowers I'd never seen before. Free entry, clean restrooms, and plenty of shaded spots. Absolute 5/5 for me. Do not miss this when in Kunming.

If you love birds, this place is heaven on earth! I came in winter specifically for the red-billed gulls and it did not disappoint. Hundreds of them swooping down for bread – absolutely magical. The lake glistens in the sunlight and the ancient trees add so much character. I sat on a bench for almost two hours just watching the scene. Perfect spot for photographers too. Couldn't recommend it more. One of my favorite park experiences ever!
