Honestly, I was a bit let down. Maybe I built it up too much after seeing all the Instagram photos. The water was murky in spots and I spotted a few plastic cups floating near the edge. Tour groups were everywhere, blocking the walkways, and you had to queue up just to get a shot of the famous arch bridge. It's free, so you get what you pay for, but the crowds and litter took away from the experience. Not terrible, but I wouldn't rush back.
I loved watching the ducks and koi fish in the lake—so many different birds too. The greenery is lush and the air feels fresh. However, the vendors along the paths blasting music from speakers really killed the calm atmosphere I was hoping for. Also, some teenagers were playing loud pop songs on portable speakers near the lotus pond. It's a lovely park, but not the zen escape I expected. 4 stars for the nature, minus one for the noise.
Green Lake is beautiful, no question about it. The willow trees, the bridges, the little islands—very scenic. But I went on a Saturday and it was absolutely packed. Hard to get a good photo without ten people in the frame. Some paths were under construction too, which made the walk a bit annoying. Still, if you go early on a weekday, I bet it's a solid 5. As it was, I'd give it a 4. Worth visiting, just plan the timing.
Brought my mom here and she couldn't stop smiling. The seagulls were incredibly friendly—we bought some bread from a vendor and they ate right out of our hands. There were groups of locals doing traditional dancing and singing near the pavilions, which added such a lively vibe. The park is well-maintained, clean, and has plenty of benches to rest. Perfect for a peaceful afternoon with family. Highly recommend!
Absolutely stunning park! I went on a clear morning and the reflection of the willows in the water was postcard-perfect. Lotus flowers were in bloom, and dozens of seagulls were circling the lake. I rented a paddleboat for an hour—super cheap and so relaxing. Grabbed a coffee at the little lakeside café and just soaked it all in. If you're in Kunming, this place is non-negotiable. 5/5, no doubts.
