The Rime (雾凇) along the Songhua River in Jilin City is a bucket-list sight. I went at sunrise and the trees looked like they were covered in white feathers—silent, magical, freezing cold though. Bring extra hand warmers. The local guides were friendly and knew the best spots. One small complaint: the public restrooms near the viewing platform were pretty dirty. Still, this is a 4-star experience for nature lovers.
Jilin surprised me in the best way. I spent three days around Changbaishan and the Tianchi Lake is absolutely unreal—crystal clear water surrounded by volcanic peaks.
