If you’re a thrill seeker, Shanghai Disney is a must-do. The TRON Lightcycle Power Run is insanely smooth and fast—I rode it three times. The immersive queue for the Pirates ride was also incredible with projection mapping. But here’s the thing: I felt rushed by staff during character meet-and-greets; they gave us barely 30 seconds with Mickey. For the ticket price (around $80 USD) I expected a bit more warmth. Good, but not perfect.
We visited during a drizzly November day, which kept the crowds down. That helped a lot. The castle is stunning—much more unique than the others, with a vibrant pink and blue palette. I loved the local touches like the Wandering Moon Tea House serving Chinese-style meals. However, I was disappointed that the parade was canceled due to the weather without any announcement until we’d waited 30 minutes. The overall experience was fun, but the communication could be improved.
Mixed feelings. The park is beautiful and the theming is top-notch, especially the Gardens of Imagination area. But the sheer size of the crowds made it hard to enjoy even on a weekday. We waited 90 minutes for the Soaring ride, and the fast pass system felt confusing and limited. Also, a few food stalls were closed mid-afternoon, which was frustrating. I’d say come if you’re a huge Disney fan, but manage your expectations about wait times.
I’ve been to Disney parks in Florida and California, so my expectations were high. Shanghai Disney has a unique charm—the Pirates of the Caribbean ride is honestly the best version of any Disney ride I’ve ever experienced. The TRON coaster is also a blast. However, I noticed some cast members seemed a bit robotic and less energetic than in the US parks. Minor thing, but it takes away from the magic a little. Still a solid 5 stars for the attractions alone.
Honestly, the park is magical at night—the fireworks show over the castle gave me chills. I went on a Tuesday so the queues were manageable, maybe 30-40 mins for most rides. The staff were friendly and spoke decent English. My only tiny complaint is that the food is painfully overpriced (like $15 for a burger combo that’s just OK). But overall, totally worth the trip if you plan ahead.
