Absolutely blown away by the size and variety of animals here. The walk-in penguin exhibit is adorable, and the flamingo lake is picture-perfect. Everything was clean and well-signed in both Chinese and English. The staff at the information desk helped us plan our route efficiently. We even spotted a baby rhino! A must-visit for any animal lover visiting Shanghai.
Decent place overall, but I left with mixed feelings. The giant pandas were asleep the whole time, which was disappointing since we specifically came for them. The elephant show felt a bit too rehearsed and the trainers seemed to use dominant commands. On the positive side, the free-range area with deer and llamas was fun for the kids. For the ticket price I expected a bit more care in animal welfare standards.
Honestly one of the best zoos I've been to in Asia. The combination of a traditional zoo with a safari drive makes it unique. We took the guided buggy tour and our guide, Li, was incredibly knowledgeable and funny. The white tigers are stunning, and the feeding session for the giraffes is a must-do. Booking online saved us some queue time. 5 stars!
I visited on a weekday hoping for some quiet time with animals, but the place was surprisingly packed with school groups. The layout is confusing – I ended up walking in circles trying to find the reptile house. Some enclosures feel a bit small and outdated, especially for the big cats. The animal shows are entertaining but feel a little forced. Not bad for a one-time visit, but I'd recommend checking the crowd calendar first.
We spent the whole day here with our two kids and it was absolutely worth the drive from central Shanghai. The safari bus ride through the predator zone was the highlight – the lions came so close to the windows! The walk-through aviary is also lovely, though a bit crowded on weekends. Pack a picnic, the food options are pricey and mediocre. Overall a fantastic family day out, would definitely come back.
