Incredible spot! The combination of the giant rocks rising straight out of the clear water, the soft sand between them, and the legend behind it all—it’s just epic. I loved wading into the shallow pools around the stones. There's even a little lighthouse and some nice walking paths. The whole place feels like a natural sculpture garden by the sea. Highly recommend going later in the afternoon when the light is golden and the crowds thin out. One of my favorite stops in Hainan!

There's something magical about standing at 'the edge of the earth'—the name alone pulls at your heart. I went at sunset and the sky turned all shades of pink and orange behind the famous rocks. It was really emotional for me, thinking about all the travelers who came here over centuries. The park is clean, well-maintained, and the staff were friendly. A bit pricey for the entrance fee, but the experience was worth it for the vibe.

A decent day out, but I wouldn't call it a must-see. The scenery is lovely—those weathered granite boulders by the sea are unique—but the whole area feels overly commercialized with souvenir stalls and overpriced snacks. We spent about two hours here, took some photos, and left. The 'End of the Earth' concept is cool for a photo op. Not bad, but not amazing either. Good for a quick stop if you're on a Sanya tour.

Honestly, I was a bit underwhelmed. The site itself is pretty, but it was absolutely packed with tour groups—people everywhere shouting and jostling for selfies. The walk from the entrance to the actual rocks is long and there's not much shade. The ticket price felt too high for what you get. If you've seen one beach and a big rock, you've seen them all. Maybe try a weekday off-season?

Absolutely stunning! The views of the coast with those iconic rocks against the turquoise water are postcard-perfect. We went early in the morning and had the place almost to ourselves—felt like we were standing at the edge of the world. The breeze was cool, the sound of waves crashing, and the 'Tianya' stone gave it such a poetic vibe. Definitely a bucket-list spot. Bring sunscreen, though!

Tianya Haijiao Travel FAQ

I only have 2 hours in Sanya — should I still go to Tianya Haijiao?
Honestly? If you have only 2 hours, skip it. The travel time alone eats up 1 hour round trip. Instead, head to Sanya Bay near the beautiful Phoenix Island — it’s closer and you’ll get a similar beach vibe without the entrance fee. Save Tianya Haijiao for a day when you have at least 3–4 hours.
Is the entrance fee worth it? I’ve heard it’s just a rock.
I’ll be straight: if you’re not into cultural symbolism, you might find it overpriced. But think of it this way — for the price of two bubble teas, you get a clean park with toilets, shaded walkways, and a story your friends back home will actually find interesting. Plus, the beach is genuinely nice. I’ve seen many skeptics end up enjoying it more than they expected.
Can I take a taxi from Sanya airport directly?
Yes, and it’s about a 40-minute drive from the airport. Expect to pay around 120–150 CNY via Didi. Just punch in “Tianya Haijiao Scenic Area” and confirm with the driver. No English sign, but the driver will know. Keep your hotel’s Chinese address handy for the return trip.
Tianya Haijiao vs. Yalong Bay — which is better for a beach day?
Yalong Bay wins hands down for swimming and soft sand. Tianya Haijiao’s beach is rocky in places and the water isn’t as clear. But Tianya Haijiao offers a cultural layer and those famous rocks. My advice: do Yalong Bay for a beach day, Tianya Haijiao for a half-day cultural outing.
Is there any food inside the park, or should I bring snacks?
There are a few snack stalls near the entrance selling coconut water, ice cream, and fried noodles — prices are inflated by about 50%. If you’re picky, bring your own sandwiches. There’s no sit-down restaurant inside, so plan accordingly.
Is it better to stay in Sanya Bay or Dadonghai for visiting Tianya Haijiao?
Hands down Sanya Bay (western part) if you want to be close. Dadonghai is central and has a livelier nightlife, but you'll spend 40+ minutes commuting each way. Sanya Bay gives you sunrise walks and pure convenience. The only reason to choose Dadonghai is if you value bar-hopping over proximity.
What's the cheapest accommodation option near Tianya Haijiao?
Dorm beds in Tianya Town hostels start around 60–80 RMB in low season. For a private room, budget hotels along Sanya Bay Road (like Nanshan Holiday Inn) often have deals under 200 RMB. But don't expect luxury – think thin walls and simple furnishings.
Do hotels near Tianya Haijiao accept foreign credit cards?
Only large chains like the ones in Sanya Bay West (e.g., some Holiday Inn properties) accept Visa/Mastercard. Small guesthouses and hostels operate on cash or WeChat Pay. Always have a backup: Chinese cash (RMB) or a prepaid travel card. I've been embarrassed multiple times when my card didn't work.
Can I stay on the beach near Tianya Haijiao?
Technically, no – overnight camping is not allowed on the public beach. However, some guesthouses in Tianya Town are literally 50 meters from the sand. The “Sea View” rooms at Tianya Story Boutique Hotel have windows facing the ocean – you can hear the waves all night. That's as close as you'll get without a tent.
What is the best time of year to book accommodation near Tianya Haijiao?
Avoid Chinese public holidays (May Day, National Day, Spring Festival) when prices triple and rooms sell out months ahead. The sweet spot is November to April – weather is warm but not scorching, and rates are reasonable. I always book through a Chinese OTA like Ctrip/Trip.com because they have the best cancellation policies.
